Darrin M. Hart – Darrin (or Dutch as his Arlington friends called him) grew up in East Arlington, Massachusetts and graduated from Arlington High School. He was the youngest of nine children. After high school, he joined the Army National Guard. While in the National Guard, he worked retail for Dagostino’s Deli, Keltown Sub & Variety and Fresh Pond Market.
Darrin had a passion for history, a love for the Beatles and most 60’s and 70’s music, and enjoyed movie classics – his favorite being It’s a Wonderful Life. Throughout the 1990’s, Darrin played drums for local Boston bands Tidal Wave and The Lonely Guy.
Several years after graduating high school, Darrin realized that teaching history is what he wanted to do. After years of schooling, Darrin landed his first teaching job in Gorham, Maine as a Special Education Teacher. Once in this job, Darrin found his true passion. Working with the children in the Special Needs Education program was where he belonged. His dedication to the students was inspiring. It’s been said that he was the first person in the classroom every morning and his humor in the classroom was contagious. Although Darrin never stopped enjoying history, he knew his teaching career was in the special needs field.
After more than a decade in Gorham, Darrin was diagnosed with Lymphoma and spent the next two years fighting courageously. On September 22, 2018, Darrin’s fight was over as he passed away peacefully at the age of 49.
